My son saw my brand new butterfly pattern and said it was "trippy"! What do you think, is it trippy? Maybe not trippy enough??! I think I will call this one "Free Spirits", a nod to the free-spirited optimism of the psychedelic 60s! Let me know what you think! This design is now available to license and if you are interested to license it for your products, just contact me!
When I'm working in my studio I often get distracted by little movements in the bushes outside my windows, usually caused by cute little gorgeous birds...So this new design is me trying to capture them in pattern! If you would like to follow along with more of my recent work, I invite you to check out my Instagram!
Can you tell I was just in Mexico? Couldn't wait to get back and start designing some new Mexico-inspired pattern designs...Here is my brand new "Folk Flowers" (I might change the name, any suggestions?). This one is all about bright colours and simple shapes, people tell me it's a happy design. I like that description! This pattern is now available to license, and more will be coming in this collection. If you are interested in licensing this design for your products, please do contact me!
This week's Spoonflower design challenge is "Neutral Retreat", the idea for this challenge was to create a larger-scale pattern for cozy bedding...I think my "Hellebores" pattern design in this Vintage colour palette does the trick! Check out the Voting Page (and all 859! entries, some of which I'm not sure I would call "neutral" though, maybe mine is borderline!)
Do you love pugs? I know that people who love pugs REALLY LOVE pugs, so my new “I Love Pugs” pattern design is for you! I’ve entered this one in this week’s Spoonflower “Dog Days” Design Challenge! Link here to the Voting Page!
Bronze, Rose, Forest and Spearmint...the four colours in this week's Spoonflower "Limited Colour Palette" Design Challenge (I added optional white too!) Here is my entry, a 1970s inspired floral I call "Bohemia"! With thanks also to the MIID Live Hub for the retro-themed inspiration! Check out the tons of amazing eye candy designs and vote your faves (until July 16)...Link to the Voting Page!
After taking the Create Collections course from Victoria Johnson Create Explore and creating my "Bugology" Collection (check out the #createcollections hashtag on IG for more designs created during this class!), I couldn't resist designing another collection on the theme of "birds, butterflies and blooms"! So here is my "Palace Walls" Collection partially inspired by all the gorgeous colours and patterned textiles I've seen on several trips to India!
Sometimes I have patterns that I love but feel the need to "revisit" by either changing some of the layouts of the motifs or maybe, just going wild with a re-colour! My folk-inspired "El Campo" Collection is a wonderful example of this! I re-arranged the motifs in two of the patterns and gave it a completely new, bright and happy colour palette. I would love to know what you think of this collection now!
I submitted my colourful, folk-inspired “In the Village” pattern design to this week’s “Boy Wonder” Design Challenge from Spoonflower and boy’s clothing brand Boy Wonder which believes boys are not only strong and tough, but also sweet and cuddly and WONDER-ful! So I thought rainbows, flowers, cute animals and bright colours would be perfect! A bit different for this week’s challenge: the winner by popular vote will get a licensing deal with Boy Wonder! So if you have a moment, I would love your vote...Here is the link to the Voting Page!
You Never Know Where Inspiration Will Come From: Indian Textiles, Japanese Souvenirs and...Food!6/12/2019 This is the beginning of a brand new pattern design collection featuring gorgeous birds and flowers in luscious, warm colours. My inspirations for this collection were: Indian textiles, a bird figurine souvenir I picked up in Japan, and food (yup, photos of limes, red peppers and mushrooms posted in The Colour Gang for this month’s food styling inspiration theme started off the colour palette!) You never know where inspiration will come from...
These first designs are now available to license (more from this new collection coming soon!) Victoria Johnson's excellent 5-week course "Create Collections" finished today. I really recommend this course if you are a surface pattern designer who wants to create gorgeous pattern collections (who of us doesn't?) for fabrics, home decor, etc. It is well-paced and really teaches how to focus and think about every step that goes into creating a collection: colour palettes, designing placement prints, understanding secondary and coordinate patterns. If you are interested in learning more about Victoria's courses, check out Victoria Johnson Create Explore! Meanwhile, here is a peek at the collection I designed during the course!
Remember Black Velvet Paintings? This Week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Paint By Numbers"!5/30/2019 I decided to enter my "Pink Flamingos" pattern design in this week's Spoonflower "Paint By Numbers" Design Challenge because it reminds me of all those black velvet paintings...remember those? You can link to the Voting Page here to see all the entries!
