Victoria Johnson's excellent 5-week course "Create Collections" finished today. I really recommend this course if you are a surface pattern designer who wants to create gorgeous pattern collections (who of us doesn't?) for fabrics, home decor, etc. It is well-paced and really teaches how to focus and think about every step that goes into creating a collection: colour palettes, designing placement prints, understanding secondary and coordinate patterns. If you are interested in learning more about Victoria's courses, check out Victoria Johnson Create Explore! Meanwhile, here is a peek at the collection I designed during the course!
Remember Black Velvet Paintings? This Week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Paint By Numbers"!5/30/2019 I decided to enter my "Pink Flamingos" pattern design in this week's Spoonflower "Paint By Numbers" Design Challenge because it reminds me of all those black velvet paintings...remember those? You can link to the Voting Page here to see all the entries!
I just entered my "Dream" pattern design in this week's Spoonflower "Bohemian Paradise" design challenge! If you have a minute, I would very much appreciate your vote (voting ends Feb 26). Maybe it might take more than a minute because you'll probably get wrapped up in all the amazing designs in the challenge. You can vote for as many as you like and don't need to have an account. Click here to go directly to the Spoonflower Challenge Voting Page!
BTW: I have been uploading a bunch of new pattern designs to My Spoonflower Shop and they should be "Available for Sale" in the next week or two on fabric, giftwrap and wallpaper, and on home decor products at Roostery.com too! Stay tuned! ADDENDUM: Just wanted to let you know that this design came in #26 out of over 700 entries in this Spoonflower challenge! Thanks to everyone of you who took the time to vote! A happy result for my first Spoonflower design challenge! More to come... I just spent 9 days in London visiting an old and good friend, playing tourist, eating great food, drinking beer in pubs, going to fantastic museums, and of course...shopping (well, mostly just drooling, not a lot of buying!) So, for you surface pattern designers out there, I'm sure you've heard of the legendary store Liberty London and their gorgeous and famous fabric designs. Of course, one of the first places I had to check out while in London was Liberty's fabrics floor. Here is just a small sample of all the gorgeous-ness!
This week's challenge in The Colour Gang was to design "generic" occasion designs for multiple uses. So here are 3 new designs, each with a simple (but fun!) colour palette. I really pictured them as packaging on those beautiful artisanal chocolate bars I see in markets and foodie shops! And make no mistake, "generic" doesn't mean boring and well...generic! Contact me if you are interested in licensing these (or other) designs!
This week's brief in Folio Focus 2018 was to create some fun farmyard characters...So here is my "FAMILY FARM" collection of pattern designs featuring affectionate roosters, hens and cute little chicks! I can see these guys on some fun kitchen linens, stationery or childrens wear! Contact me if you would like to license these designs!
To see all my newest pattern designs, I also invite you to check out my IG at: https://www.instagram.com ! Just for fun today I stayed with the Colour Gang's monochrome colour palette challenge. I designed my Birds & Blossoms pattern and added a coordinate first, in black and white, but then decided to try it out in blue too! Then I decided to try the blue one with a lighter background! Which one do you like best?? I also might move away from the monochrome palettes and just go wild with colour too! Contact me to inquire about licensing my pattern designs!
The brief for Week 3 of FolioFocus 2018 is called "Hobby House", all about everyday objects, especially sewing paraphernalia! So here is my final "Sewing Obsession" Collection and a fun journal set with this collection. Wouldn't this set be a great way to keep notes about all the fun sewing and quilting projects you want to do!
This week's brief for FolioFocus 2018 was "AstroSynergy"! So I decided to design some Signs of the Zodiac, starting with "Taurus". Here is a collection with a placement print and several repeat designs. I might try and do "Aries" next...Are you a Taurus?! This collection would be wonderful on bedding, as shown!
As part of preparing for Surtex (May 20-22, Booth 2524) and Blueprint Show 1 (May 17-19) in NYC, I've been revising and recolouring some of my pattern design collections, such as this "Al Fresco" Collection here, available to license! You can see the full collection in my new LOOKBOOK which will soon be available to view at Nerida Hansen Print & Textiles where you will be able to request access to view!
I love how new colours change the feel of a surface pattern design collection! Here is my "How Does Your Garden Grow?" Collection in Dusky Pink and the original Fresh Green colour palettes. Take your pick! Which do you like best? Both colour ways will be available at Surtex and Blueprint Show 1 this May in NYC with Nerida Hansen Print & Textiles!
Wow! It's April already! I've been laying out my 32-page LOOKBOOK full of my surface pattern designs (over 100!), which will be available to view at both Surtex (May 20-22, Booth 2524) and Blueprint Show 1 (May 17-19) where I'll be represented by Nerida Hansen Print & Textiles. Here is a sneak peek of the cover, and my revised logo. Would this tempt you to open up the book and have a look?!
I love birds with BIG FEET! So I've been working on my pattern designs featuring water birds...herons, oystercatchers and scarlet ibis! This collection will be available at both Surtex and Blueprint Show 1 this May in NYC where I will be showing with Nerida Hansen Print & Textiles! If you want to see some of the coordinates in this collection, check out my Fauna page in my Portfolio! Happy Weekend everyone!
Just thought I would mockup some of my new pattern collections on the wonderful mockups from Nerida Hansen! On the left, my "How Does Your Garden Grow?" Collection and on the right, my "Sunny Climes" Collection. I can feel the warm breezes already...
