When I saw that this week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Doodle Bugs" and that they wanted design elements to be "hand-drawn", I took that to heart and started doodling bugs with my trusty fine-tip Sharpie, and my new "Caterpillar Playground" design is the result! I know you're probably thinking this design is great for kids, but I'd really like this one for myself on a top or dress! And HEY, come to think of it, I can make that happen! Public voting for this Challenge opens today and you can link to the Voting Page HERE! This fun design is now available in my Spoonflower Shop on Fabrics, Wallpaper and Home Decor in 3 sizes HERE. AND you can also get this design in my Redbubble Shop on Apparel, Tech Accessories, Wall Art and so much more HERE! Keep scrolling down to see just some of the products with this fun design from both Shops! From my SPOONFLOWER SHOP! From my REDBUBBLE SHOP!
My "Puppy Love" pattern design is my entry for NEXT week's Spoonflower "Funny Valentine" Design Challenge! Maybe it's more "cute" than "funny", but I kinda think the guy with the glasses and tall head is pretty funny! You can link to the Voting Page HERE, and Public Voting for this Challenge opens next Thursday DEC 1 (I had thought voting started this week, but there's a break for Thanksgiving!) Don't worry, I'll remind you next week! Happy Thanksgiving!
When I googled "teamwork" to get ideas for this week's Spoonflower "Teamwork" Design Challenge, alot of images with people and mechanical gears came up. So that gave me the idea of adding fun faces into clockwork gears! But WHO KNEW creating happy faces would be so difficult? It took me alot of revising and adjusting to make sure the facial expressions didn't end up looking creepy or nefarious or troubled or weird...But in the end, I hope this one makes you smile!
I think this one would be great for Back-to-School too as I also intended it to encourage science, engineering, mechanics and STEM subjects! Link to the Voting Page HERE. BTW: I entered the Dark Blue version, but when I asked in a Facebook group which I should enter, the consensus came back as the Cream version…then I missed the deadline to switch them. So Dark Blue it is! Also check out the Dark version in my Spoonflower Shop! My "Darling" butterfly and floral print features on this gorgeous MILA dress by Barefoot Baby Australia. Adorable! Now FOR SALE on their WEBSITE!
The Year of the Tiger 2022 starts Feb 1 and it also happens to be this week's Spoonflower Design Challenge! Here is my entry...Is this tiger cute, serious or seriously cute?! Kung hay fat choy!
Check out this cute design in my Spoonflower Shop! Here is my entry for this week's Spoonflower "Pastel Halloween" Design Challenge, called "Happy Halloween Damask"! It might seem a little funny to be thinking about Halloween in the middle of Summer, but I'm sure all the amazing sewists and makers out there probably appreciate this so you're not rushed getting your spooky projects ordered and finished in time for Oct 31!
TIP: My HAPPY HALLOWEEN Collection in my Spoonflower Shop has 5 coordinating spooooky designs (but not toooo spooooky) on all kinds of fabrics, wallpaper and home decor! Each one comes in both a Pastel and Traditional colourway (see both below) AND each comes in 3 sizes too! Lots and lots of options! Check out my Spoonflower Shop and my Happy Halloween Collection AND the Voting Page to check out all the entries! Here is my "Little Charms" design that I've entered in this week's Spoonflower "Microscopic Worlds" Design Challenge! It was inspired by the little gnome houses that I run by in my neighbourhood (scroll down to see a pic!) I'm sure kids must love playing here and I tried to keep that playful feeling in this design.
Check out the Voting Page to see all the entries, and have a look at my Spoonflower Shop! Something to inspire your imagination. AND Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends, all the best. Yippee!! Here is my entry for this week’s Spoonflower “Ice Cream Truck” Design Challenge. I just really wanted to go bright and happy for this one...I can imagine kids would love this on sheets, blankets, pillows, and you could make them matching pjs with fabric from my Shop! You might even get kids to wear a face mask which are also available in a child size in my Spoonflower Shop! I’ve added this design in both small- and large-scale versions.
Check out the Voting Page to see all the entries! And you can also see what's available in my Spoonflower Shop too! The Nugget Play Couch created by nuggetcomfort.com is a kid’s play couch that is “Part-furniture, part-toy, and all-around the best thing to happen to playtime since, well, ever!" Sounds like my kinda furniture! This week Nugget partnered with Spoonflower for this week’s “Nugget Couch" Design Challenge: to create a pattern to be used on a limited-edition Nugget to come out later this year. Some of the design elements they requested: colour-blocking, non-directional, bright colours (max 8), geometric, fitting into multiple room styles, design for stylish parents who might lean to minimalist style. And also remembering when my kids were younger we read endless books about shapes, sizes and colours, and played with building toys endlessly (I think we had every building toy out there), plus keeping older kids and "stylish” parents in mind, here is my entry which I call, not surprisingly, "Shapes Sizes Colours” (which I also quite like on bedding, pillows, table linens and wallpaper too!) This challenge is a FUN one, so I would be grateful for your VOTE on this one! Have a look at all the entries at the Voting Page!
Do you love pugs? I know that people who love pugs REALLY LOVE pugs, so my new “I Love Pugs” pattern design is for you! I’ve entered this one in this week’s Spoonflower “Dog Days” Design Challenge! Link here to the Voting Page!
Sometimes I have patterns that I love but feel the need to "revisit" by either changing some of the layouts of the motifs or maybe, just going wild with a re-colour! My folk-inspired "El Campo" Collection is a wonderful example of this! I re-arranged the motifs in two of the patterns and gave it a completely new, bright and happy colour palette. I would love to know what you think of this collection now!
I submitted my colourful, folk-inspired “In the Village” pattern design to this week’s “Boy Wonder” Design Challenge from Spoonflower and boy’s clothing brand Boy Wonder which believes boys are not only strong and tough, but also sweet and cuddly and WONDER-ful! So I thought rainbows, flowers, cute animals and bright colours would be perfect! A bit different for this week’s challenge: the winner by popular vote will get a licensing deal with Boy Wonder! So if you have a moment, I would love your vote...Here is the link to the Voting Page!
I NEED MORE VOTES! I thought I would post this gentle reminder that my "Butterfly Garden" and "Rainbow Floral" wall mural designs have been shortlisted in the Wallsauce Design Competition, and the winner will now be determined by Public Vote. Voting CLOSES May 31 at Midnight (UK time), so it's down to the last few days! The prize is a licensing agreement with Wallsauce! If you could take a quick moment to vote for my designs, that would be lovely! All you need to do is go to this Blog Post and enter my name "Jackie Tahara" in the comments and remember to Send Comment! That's it! THANKS to all who have voted for me already, very much appreciated!
I have a SMALL and QUICK request! I have happily been shortlisted (with 11 other artists) for the WALLSAUCE Wall Mural Design Contest and now I need your VOTE! The brief was to design 2 related “Nature” murals, so I submitted my “Butterfly Garden” and “Rainbow Floral” designs, with the idea of turning a child’s room into a magical fantasy landscape. The prize is a licensed wallpaper collection with Wallsauce (eeee!) The final stage of the contest is by Public Vote—all you need to vote is go to the Wallsauce Blog and comment with my name Jackie Tahara at the bottom of the blog post, and remember to “Send Comment”. Very quick and easy! It would mean a lot to me to win! With gratitude…
