Playing Catchup #2: My Entry for the Spoonflower "Non-Directional Ditsy Holiday" Design Challenge!9/15/2024 Whoops again! To continue on from my previous Blog Post, here's my "second" catchup of my entries for the last two Spoonflower Design Challenges! Apologies that voting for this Challenge is now closed, but I just wanted to share the story behind my new "Festive Garlands" design. And you can SHOP this design in my Spoonflower Shop by clicking the IMAGES below! My "Non-Directional Ditsy Holiday" Design Challenge Entry: "Festive Garlands" When I check out all those mouth-watering racks of single-sheet gift wrap in stationery stores around the Christmas holidays, it’s usually the “non-traditional” designs that catch my eye. So, for the Spoonflower “Non-Directional Ditsy Holiday” Design Challenge, I just felt the need to do something a little different, ie. something that would catch my eye in a shop BUT would still say “Holiday” to me! So here is my brand new “Festive Garlands” botanical pattern design that has some Christmas colours and festive sparkle-y bits! What do you think? Does it say “Holiday” to you (or maybe “Festive” or “Party Time” or...)?

HEEEY!! I just realized I missed posting about my last TWO entries to the Spoonflower Design Challenges! So I thought I would catch them up here before posting about this week's current "Neutral Geometric Wallpaper" Design Challenge (see next post for that!) Even though you've missed the voting for these 2 challenges, these designs are now available in my Spoonflower Shop in 3 sizes on fabrics, wallpaper and home decor! Shop these designs in my Spoonflower Shop by clicking on each image! EEK! PHANTASMAGORIA Design Challenge Voting closed Aug 10 2021 One definition of Phantasmagoria is "a series of real or imaginary images like those seen in a dream". I think my "Eyeballs" design might be more of a nightmare! In any event, I think this is good and creepy and PERFECT for all your Halloween makes! NOCTURNAL ANIMALS Design Challenge
Voting closed August 17 2021 I sometimes really struggle with trying to put TOO much into a design, but for my "There Be Owls" design I wanted to simplify the design while making sure it still says "OWL". And then I had to add in lots of colour, of course! What do you think? Here is my entry for this week's Spoonflower "Pastel Halloween" Design Challenge, called "Happy Halloween Damask"! It might seem a little funny to be thinking about Halloween in the middle of Summer, but I'm sure all the amazing sewists and makers out there probably appreciate this so you're not rushed getting your spooky projects ordered and finished in time for Oct 31!
TIP: My HAPPY HALLOWEEN Collection in my Spoonflower Shop has 5 coordinating spooooky designs (but not toooo spooooky) on all kinds of fabrics, wallpaper and home decor! Each one comes in both a Pastel and Traditional colourway (see both below) AND each comes in 3 sizes too! Lots and lots of options! Check out my Spoonflower Shop and my Happy Halloween Collection AND the Voting Page to check out all the entries! In this informative post, Spoonflower employees and mother-daughter duo, Isabel and Ace, discuss Passover traditions, share how they will be celebrating Passover this year, and provide DIY instructions for making Matzah Covers and Afikomen Bags for your Passover Seder. This year they decided to update their traditions using fabrics from Spoonflower and compiled their own Passover Collection of designs, including my "Modern Chintz" fabric which they used for the napkins pictured below. I love how the designs they chose all coordinate together beautifully! Check out the full Spoonflower Blog post (March 8 2021) where you can find a link to my "Modern Chintz" design, and my Spoonflower Shop for more of my designs! Also pictured here fabrics by: wren_leyland on the Matzah Cover, ivieclothco on the Tablecloth, and taranealart and schatzibrown on Pillows (all have Shops on Spoonflower).
My "Christmas Cheer" Background Pack is now live in the photo-collage app PicCollage, and available for you to make festive photo collages to send to all your family and friends. I'm not sure what is happening where you are but sadly it looks like where I live we won't be able to celebrate the holidays in person except with people from our own households. Maybe making a cheery collage with photos from this crazy year might be a creative way to connect. See below for the 12 pattern designs that come in my Christmas Cheer Background Pack! Hope you're managing to stay cheer-y and I wish you Happy Holidays. Here's to a Healthy 2021! The idea behind this week’s Spoonflower “Pastel Cafe” Design Challenge is to “evoke the aesthetics and atmosphere of a typical Italian or French cafe one might find in the 1950s and ‘60s”! So here is my “Party Time!” entry! What do you think? Does it make you imagine Audrey Hepburn having a romantic birthday luncheon (with martinis, of course)?! Check out the Voting Page to see all the entries! It is also available for sale now in my Spoonflower Shop!
I entered my "Cut Paper Snowflakes" design in this week's Spoonflower "Papercut Napkins" Design Challenge (you can see how I created it in the photos below)! I thought maybe snowflakes weren't the best theme for this time of year, but then I noticed a couple of stories in our local paper...
The Rapid Relief Fund which was created to help local people in need in this time of crisis, has gotten a boost from the Times Colonist (our local newspaper) Christmas Fund which is donating $100000 to match and encourage other donations. For the first time in history, the Christmas Fund is being put to work in the Spring. And a local woman has suggested we all turn on our Christmas lights to show thanks to our front-line health-care and other public workers. So, I guess...Christmas snowflakes in Spring? Why not?! You can check out the Voting Page to see all the entries! Remember all those snowflakes you made as a kid (or with your kids) by folding paper, cutting out bits, then opening up the paper and voila! snowflakes! Then you taped them to your windows! I made a whole bunch of paper snowflakes that way (from used post-it notes, good reuse!) then turned them into this new winter-themed pattern in nice cozy colours! Does it bring back memories for you?!
I just submitted my new "Party Time!" pattern design to this month's "Birthday Bash" Handpicked Design Challenge from They Draw and Cook! Presents, flowers, cake, balloons and...martinis! I see this as giftwrap or a really fun apron, what about you?! This design is now available to license!
Just thought I would share the Christmas pattern collection I've been working on this past week in FolioFocus 2018 (alas, the last week of this super fun course!)...A festive bright colour palette and a more muted and delicate one. I know which I prefer, how about you?
This month's creative challenge in the Colour Gang was to get away from the "standard" festive colour palette of green, red and white and try using an alternative palette for a festive design...Here is a snowflake motif that I re-coloured using bright purple, pink, blue and red. I know It's festive, but does it still read as Xmas? What do you think?
New Colours, New Patterns! One Week Until Blueprint Show 1 and Surtex in NYC! Unbelievable!5/10/2018 I always love how re-vising pattern designs with new on-trend colours really makes such a difference and gives a pattern collection new life! Here is my "Be My Valentine" Collection with gorgeous new soft colours. These designs are available to license! And one week today until Blueprint Show 1 starts in NYC, followed by Surtex on May 20-22! Looking forward to feasting my eyes at both shows! Please join me there if you can!
As 2017 winds down, just wanted to share this collection of holiday-themed art from artlicensingshow.com portfolio artists! My festive holiday drinks design is included (in the middle in the image above!)
This is a new festive holiday card design that I designed to submit to the MATS Holiday Card Competition! The brief was to design an illustration of our favourite festive winter beverage...champagne and spices and fruit!
Just thought I would post this round-up of some of the new patterns and placement prints that I designed during the super fun 10-week Folio Focus course! Can't wait to do the course again in 2018!
