For this week's "What a Wonderful World" Design Challenge, Spoonflower partnered with Peppermint Magazine. The winning designs will be featured in a fashion spread in this Australian magazine! I entered my "Tropical Zone" design full of colourful spotted fish swimming amongst corals and sea plants. My "Jellies" design is part of a new pattern collection that I first talked about in one of my Newsletters a couple months back, and one of my subscribers wrote back to me and said how calming and soothing the design was! So I thought it would be perfect to enter in this week's Spoonflower "Sweet Dreams Bedding" Design Challenge! This design comes in two colourways, but I entered the Blue version because it is much more calming IMHO! I'll just drift away now...
. Public voting for this Challenge opens today Thursday May 18 and closes next Tuesday May 23. You can link to the Voting Page HERE, and see the Blue version in my Spoonflower Shop HERE! You can also link to these designs by clicking on the images below. OH and stay tuned for more from this collection! Okay, I've done it! I've been sitting on my “Downtown” design for a (loooong) while, but I decided to finally add it to my Spoonflower Shop. When I saw the palette of saturated Blues and Greens that we had to use in this week's Spoonflower "Pantone Ultra-Steady Wallpaper" Design Challenge, I immediately thought the colours would really do well with this design, and I think it gives this urban scene a very quiet and still vibe. I still love this design in its original Bright Retro Colours (scroll to the bottom to see), but now I like it in the Ultra-Steady colours too! Public voting for this Challenge opened Thursday May 4 and closes next Tuesday May 9! You can vote at the Voting Page HERE and I'd love your vote for this one!
. My "Downtown" design is now available in my Spoonflower Shop not only on Wallpaper, but also on Fabrics and Home Decor too, in Both Colourways and 3 sizes (click the images below to link directly to these designs in my Shop)! Happy Birthday Tou-Can!

If you'd like to see the design in my Shop, you can click the images below! When I saw that this week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Doodle Bugs" and that they wanted design elements to be "hand-drawn", I took that to heart and started doodling bugs with my trusty fine-tip Sharpie, and my new "Caterpillar Playground" design is the result! I know you're probably thinking this design is great for kids, but I'd really like this one for myself on a top or dress! And HEY, come to think of it, I can make that happen! Public voting for this Challenge opens today and you can link to the Voting Page HERE! This fun design is now available in my Spoonflower Shop on Fabrics, Wallpaper and Home Decor in 3 sizes HERE. This week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Miniature Dollhouse Wallpaper" and I planned to enter my "Daisy May" design, either in the original "Dark Blue" or "Light Gray" version in a cute Tiny Scale, but I wasn't sure which. But then I thought, well, neither just didn't seem very Dollhouse-y to me, so I tried it in a Turquoise version, hmmm, better (see below for all these colour options!)...But I thought it still needed more Dollhouse-iness! So then I tried it out in Pink and Lavender Purple. Now THAT says Dollhouse-y to me, so I entered it!
Public voting for this Spoonflower Design Challenge opened on Thursday April 13 and closes next Tuesday April 18! You can link to the Voting Page HERE! Click the images below to see the Tiny-Scale versions of my "Daisy May" design in my Spoonflower Shop. They are all available also in Smalll-, Medium- and Large-Scale versions too! This week Spoonflower partnered with East Fork Pottery for the "East Fork: Butter & Piglet" Design Challenge to celebrate the launch of East Fork's newest glaze colours, Butter and Piglet! The Challenge was to create a design using these 2 colours (plus up to 2 other colours) that could be used on table linens alongside the new East Fork pottery. Here is my entry: "My Stripes Are Tangled" which has an organic abstract design in Butter and Piglet, on a background of blue that is meant to be similar to another of their glaze colours called Blue Ridge!
Public voting for this Challenge opens on Thursday March 30 and I would really, really love your vote for this one (you can link to the Voting Page HERE)! The first-place prize includes East Fork pottery, eee!! . OH and keep scrolling down...I of course had to try this fun design in a bunch of other colourways! All are now available on Fabrics, Wallpaper and Home Decor in 3 sizes! Click on the images below to see the Medium-Scale versions in my Spoonflower Shop! "Wild Thing"! My Entry For This Week's Spoonflower "Italian Villa Wallpaper" Design Challenge!3/22/2023 When I first saw that this week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Italian Villa Wallpaper", the first thing I thought of was animal prints (think: Gucci). And then I couldn't help thinking about the types of colour palettes favoured by one of my favourite print designers of all time, Pucci. So, here is my "Wild Thing" abstract leopard print, inspired by Italian design, in a Retro MidMod colour palette! I can picture this on the walls of a Lake Como villa!
Public voting for this Challenge opens tomorrow Thursday March 23 and you can link to the Voting Page HERE! And click the images below to SHOP this design in my Spoonflower Shop! . BTW: There is a Pucci book that I COVET, but it's just a bit pricey at the moment...But WAITAMINUTE! Mother's Day is coming up...That's not a hint, OH NOOO... My new "Garden Burst" pattern might look "simple", but trust me when I say it took a very long time to arrive at this final design. I had started out with a whole bunch of sketched flower motifs and was trying to jam all of them into a single design, moving them around, bigger, smaller, overlapping...I had in my mind something quite spare (wanting to just use the dark blue and the two grays), but still playful and fun. It took me, OH, maybe two days of fiddling to realize that I should take out ALL the other motifs, and just make the design with these fun bulb-y flowers! Then I added some curly vines, and some bright playful colours here and there...and voila!...the simple design that took DAYS.
And wonder what I'm going to do with all those other floral motifs I didn't use? More pattern designs, of course! Stay tuned! . I've entered my "Garden Burst" design in this week's Spoonflower "Garden Bedding" Design Challenge. Public voting opens Thursday March 16 and you can link to the Voting Page HERE! This week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Passementerie" and this is my entry which I'm calling... "Passementerie" (I like the word!) For those who don't know, passementerie are gorgeous trims and embroidery used for clothing and furnishings. I created this design in some other colours, but I entered the first one in Delicate Colours because they felt like Spring to me (if you're feeling more like Summer, you'll like the tropical-colour version, scroll down below)! Voting for this Challenge opens tomorrow Thursday March 9 and you can link to the Voting Page HERE! And click each of the images below to go directly to the Medium-Scale of these designs in my Spoonflower Shop! These are also available in a Small-Scale and Large-Scale version too! And see below for some other colourways of my "Passementerie" floral pattern design: Tropical Retro 70s Colours and Viva Magenta with Pink! Any favourites?
This week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Hidden Whimsy Wallpaper" and one of the examples they gave to explain the theme was "a traditional damask pattern created entirely of macaroni". So because I've really been thinking of geometric shapes lately, I decided to make a botanical pattern created entirely of geometric shapes! Here is my "Sunny Day" wallpaper. I'm not sure you can even imagine how fun this one was to create, and now I MUST do it in some other colours too!
Public voting for this Challenge is open now until Tuesday March 7 and you can link to the Voting Page HERE! If a chameleon went on vacation, where would they go? To a nice warm and quiet place where they could just hang out amongst colourful, overgrown and shady flowers (at least that's what I imagine)! Maybe I'd go somewhere similar! "Chameleons Just Wanna Have Fun" is my entry for this week's Spoonflower "Pets On Vacation" Design Challenge (I entered the Jungle Green version, but it comes in Retro Gray too). Public voting opens Thursday Feb 23 and closes next Tuesday Feb 28. You can link to the Voting Page HERE and I'd love your vote for this one, with much thanks!
. And you can see this little guy in my Spoonflower Shop HERE! Or click the images below to see the Large-Scale versions in different colourways in my Shop! Note that they do come in a Small-Scale and Medium-Scale version too! I've entered my new "Hilo" pattern design in this week's Spoonflower "Time Machine" Design Challenge. The idea behind this challenge is to create a design inspired by a particular time period. I chose the 1950s, and even more specifically, I was inspired by all those vintage 1950s Hawaiian prints that I love so much (and my hubby has a BIG collection of them!) I called this one "Hilo" for one of my favourite towns on Big Island, Hawaii, with its colourful downtown, where my kids used to play soccer games with Kona Crush, and where LOTS of rain keep it filled with gorgeous tropical greenery. Sigh. Public voting for this Challenge opens today Thursday Feb 2 and closes next Tuesday Feb 7. You can link to the Voting Page HERE (and it's a pretty fun Challenge with so many different kinds of entries)! AND if you'd like to see "Hilo" in several colours in my Spoonflower Shop where they're available in 3 sizes on Fabrics, Wallpaper and Home Decor, click on the images below! OF COURSE, I had to try this "Hilo" design out in some other colourways too, see below for this design in Charcoal and Coral Red. Click the images if you'd like to see them in my Spoonflower Shop! With thanks to The Indoorsy Project for this skirt mockup.
What?! Brown?! Yes! My Entry for Spoonflower's "Earth Tone Throw Pillows" Design Challenge!1/27/2023 Whaaa-aat?! Brown and beige?!? Why not?! Here's my new "Local Colour" floral pattern (1st 2 pics below) that I entered in this week's Spoonflower "Earth Tone Throw Pillows" Design Challenge. I called it this because of some of the research I did using the photos I took at, and the "Flower and Plant Guide" I picked up from, the world-famous Butchart Gardens (a most amazing local garden) on my last visit, and some of the pics I've taken of Summer gardens and hanging baskets in and around Downtown Victoria. I must admit I wasn't at first really enthusiastic about this palette, but I find I really love how rich and warm all the entries look! I surprise myself! So I did try out a few other new designs in this colour palette just for the heckuvit (see below)! . AND if you'd like to vote you can link to the VOTING PAGE HERE. But just a heads up...There are 1771 entries! WOW!! Is that the most ever?! Public voting for this challenge ends Tuesday January 31 at 3:00 EST! You can also see these designs in my Spoonflower Shop by clicking on the images below. Pictured: Dappled Ti Plants (above) and In The Groove in Dark and Light Earth Tones (below).
My son said this pattern design looks like a bunch of origami paper! But actually, the intent was to create a faux crazy quilt, so that's what this one is called..."Crazy Quilt"! If you look closely, you'll see woven and printed textile "swatches", some with "embroidery", including some "cross stitches"! So I've entered this one in this week's Spoonflower "Cross Stitch" Design Challenge! Public voting for this Challenge opens tomorrow Thursday January 5! You can vote at the Voting Page HERE (and I would love your vote for this one)! BTW: I did the original motifs for this design as part of the Doodle-A-Day challenge offered by Rhianna Wurman of Ello Lovey in partnership with Spoonflower! This January-long challenge is on now. Find out more about the Doodle-A-Day challenge and how to join in at the Spoonflower Blog HERE! See below for my original doodle! And if you're on TikTok, be sure to check out Spoonflower's TikTok in January daily for some quick inspiring Doodle-A-Day videos based on each of the challenge prompts. I'll be sharing on Day 3: Fabric and Day 16: Gardening! AND of course, I had to try it out in another completely different colourway! See below for the Orange Yellow Green colourway! Which colour palette do you like best?!
