QUESTION: Can you tell what words are scrambled up in this new print design that I created for babies and newborns? I’ve entered this one in this week’s Spoonflower “Welcome To The World” Design Challenge! Public voting opens Thursday Oct 24 and you can link to the Voting Page HERE.
Note: I forgot I actually entered the Pink version, but it comes in Pink and Blue, as you can see! . My concept for this one...The scrambled letters are meant to convey a heartfelt message (okay, okay, please resist any “funny” answers to my question!), but also nods to childhood development, learning letters, reading and playing with toy blocks! . To SHOP these designs in my Spoonflower Shop on Fabrics, Wallpaper and Home Decor, click on the images below (links to the Small-Scale versions). Both colourways come in Small-, Medium- and Large-Scale versions!

Here is my "Little Charms" design that I've entered in this week's Spoonflower "Microscopic Worlds" Design Challenge! It was inspired by the little gnome houses that I run by in my neighbourhood (scroll down to see a pic!) I'm sure kids must love playing here and I tried to keep that playful feeling in this design.
Check out the Voting Page to see all the entries, and have a look at my Spoonflower Shop! Something to inspire your imagination. AND Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends, all the best. “GO BANANAS!” This is what I named my entry for this week’s Spoonflower “Line Art Safari Wallpaper” Design Challenge!
And I hope you’re not literally going bananas after a month of staying home... If you would like to see all the entries, check out the Voting Page! And this fun design is now available to purchase in my Spoonflower Shop on all kinds of fabrics, wallpaper and home decor! The Nugget Play Couch created by nuggetcomfort.com is a kid’s play couch that is “Part-furniture, part-toy, and all-around the best thing to happen to playtime since, well, ever!" Sounds like my kinda furniture! This week Nugget partnered with Spoonflower for this week’s “Nugget Couch" Design Challenge: to create a pattern to be used on a limited-edition Nugget to come out later this year. Some of the design elements they requested: colour-blocking, non-directional, bright colours (max 8), geometric, fitting into multiple room styles, design for stylish parents who might lean to minimalist style. And also remembering when my kids were younger we read endless books about shapes, sizes and colours, and played with building toys endlessly (I think we had every building toy out there), plus keeping older kids and "stylish” parents in mind, here is my entry which I call, not surprisingly, "Shapes Sizes Colours” (which I also quite like on bedding, pillows, table linens and wallpaper too!) This challenge is a FUN one, so I would be grateful for your VOTE on this one! Have a look at all the entries at the Voting Page!
I submitted my colourful, folk-inspired “In the Village” pattern design to this week’s “Boy Wonder” Design Challenge from Spoonflower and boy’s clothing brand Boy Wonder which believes boys are not only strong and tough, but also sweet and cuddly and WONDER-ful! So I thought rainbows, flowers, cute animals and bright colours would be perfect! A bit different for this week’s challenge: the winner by popular vote will get a licensing deal with Boy Wonder! So if you have a moment, I would love your vote...Here is the link to the Voting Page!
I have a SMALL and QUICK request! I have happily been shortlisted (with 11 other artists) for the WALLSAUCE Wall Mural Design Contest and now I need your VOTE! The brief was to design 2 related “Nature” murals, so I submitted my “Butterfly Garden” and “Rainbow Floral” designs, with the idea of turning a child’s room into a magical fantasy landscape. The prize is a licensed wallpaper collection with Wallsauce (eeee!) The final stage of the contest is by Public Vote—all you need to vote is go to the Wallsauce Blog and comment with my name Jackie Tahara at the bottom of the blog post, and remember to “Send Comment”. Very quick and easy! It would mean a lot to me to win! With gratitude…
Fresh off my Top Ten placement in last week's design challenge, I've decided to enter my "City Kids" design (a bit revised) in this week's Spoonflower "Playmats" Design Challenge! How fun would this be on a child's floor?! Even better, there are several kawaii co-ordinating repeat patterns to go with this in my Spoonflower Shop as well (I'm thinking duvets and wallpaper!?) Check out all the fantastic designs on the Voting Page (voting ends April 30 at 3:00 EDT)!
Wallsauce is an online wall mural and photo wallpaper company and they have a new comp in association with Rise Design & Shine! The brief is to design 2 wall murals based on the theme of Nature. The designs must relate to each other and may form part of a new collection! I chose to design for kids rooms. Wallsauce will shortlist designs, and then it will be put to a public vote! Wish me luck! Here are sneak peeks of the folk-inspired designs I submitted!
I use this pattern, called "Sunny With Cloudy Periods" as my phone’s wallpaper because it’s so happy and always makes me smile. Its now available on fabric, gift wrap and wallpaper (how fun would this be in a kids room?!) at Spoonflower and on home decor items at Roostery Home AND I just entered it in this week’s Spoonflower “April Showers” Design Challenge! Check out the entries on the Voting Page (voting ends April 16).
I just entered my "Butterfly Breeze" design in this week's Spoonflower "Pollinators" Design Challenge...Although not as effective as bees, butterflies are still very good pollinators! Check out the Voting Page to see all the amazing entries!
This week's brief in Folio Focus 2018 was to create some fun farmyard characters...So here is my "FAMILY FARM" collection of pattern designs featuring affectionate roosters, hens and cute little chicks! I can see these guys on some fun kitchen linens, stationery or childrens wear! Contact me if you would like to license these designs!
To see all my newest pattern designs, I also invite you to check out my IG at: https://www.instagram.com ! I love how my newest pattern designs look on these cozy quilts! On the first one are my "Little Grunt Sculpin" and "Constellation of Starfish" pattern designs; the second one has my new "Cupcake Dreams" and "PomPoms" designs. These would make great gifts (I'd like to get one!), don't you think?
