This week Spoonflower partnered with East Fork Pottery for the "East Fork: Butter & Piglet" Design Challenge to celebrate the launch of East Fork's newest glaze colours, Butter and Piglet! The Challenge was to create a design using these 2 colours (plus up to 2 other colours) that could be used on table linens alongside the new East Fork pottery. Here is my entry: "My Stripes Are Tangled" which has an organic abstract design in Butter and Piglet, on a background of blue that is meant to be similar to another of their glaze colours called Blue Ridge!
Public voting for this Challenge opens on Thursday March 30 and I would really, really love your vote for this one (you can link to the Voting Page HERE)! The first-place prize includes East Fork pottery, eee!! . OH and keep scrolling down...I of course had to try this fun design in a bunch of other colourways! All are now available on Fabrics, Wallpaper and Home Decor in 3 sizes! Click on the images below to see the Medium-Scale versions in my Spoonflower Shop!

"Wild Thing"! My Entry For This Week's Spoonflower "Italian Villa Wallpaper" Design Challenge!3/22/2023 When I first saw that this week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Italian Villa Wallpaper", the first thing I thought of was animal prints (think: Gucci). And then I couldn't help thinking about the types of colour palettes favoured by one of my favourite print designers of all time, Pucci. So, here is my "Wild Thing" abstract leopard print, inspired by Italian design, in a Retro MidMod colour palette! I can picture this on the walls of a Lake Como villa!
Public voting for this Challenge opens tomorrow Thursday March 23 and you can link to the Voting Page HERE! And click the images below to SHOP this design in my Spoonflower Shop! . BTW: There is a Pucci book that I COVET, but it's just a bit pricey at the moment...But WAITAMINUTE! Mother's Day is coming up...That's not a hint, OH NOOO... My son said this pattern design looks like a bunch of origami paper! But actually, the intent was to create a faux crazy quilt, so that's what this one is called..."Crazy Quilt"! If you look closely, you'll see woven and printed textile "swatches", some with "embroidery", including some "cross stitches"! So I've entered this one in this week's Spoonflower "Cross Stitch" Design Challenge! Public voting for this Challenge opens tomorrow Thursday January 5! You can vote at the Voting Page HERE (and I would love your vote for this one)! BTW: I did the original motifs for this design as part of the Doodle-A-Day challenge offered by Rhianna Wurman of Ello Lovey in partnership with Spoonflower! This January-long challenge is on now. Find out more about the Doodle-A-Day challenge and how to join in at the Spoonflower Blog HERE! See below for my original doodle! And if you're on TikTok, be sure to check out Spoonflower's TikTok in January daily for some quick inspiring Doodle-A-Day videos based on each of the challenge prompts. I'll be sharing on Day 3: Fabric and Day 16: Gardening! AND of course, I had to try it out in another completely different colourway! See below for the Orange Yellow Green colourway! Which colour palette do you like best?!
I've entered my "Corfu" design in this week's Spoonflower "Cheerful Checks" Design Challenge! This design and it's colour combination were inspired by a trip I took a long time ago to that Greek island! If you would like to see all the entries and vote (and I would love your vote!), you can link to the Voting Page HERE! Voting closes next Tuesday July 19 2022!
. And this design is now available in my Spoonflower Shop on Fabrics, Wallpaper and Home Decor in 3 sizes! Check out my Spoonflower Shop HERE! Remember all those snowflakes you made as a kid (or with your kids) by folding paper, cutting out bits, then opening up the paper and voila! snowflakes! Then you taped them to your windows! I made a whole bunch of paper snowflakes that way (from used post-it notes, good reuse!) then turned them into this new winter-themed pattern in nice cozy colours! Does it bring back memories for you?!
Here is one of my abstract designs that I re-coloured with all these crazy colour combinations and submitted to this week's Spoonflower "Kaleidoscope" Design Challenge. Look closely...How long do you think it took for me to decide on the colours? Don't ask...If you want to check out all the cool designs (and this week, I think "cool" is the right description), you can link to the Spoonflower Voting Page here! Voting ends Nov 19 at 3:00 EST.
For the month of July, Slowdown Studio had a Blanket Design Competition with 12 winning artists having their designs featured in their 2020 Collection. But before you get tooooo excited, I didn't win (there were almost 10000, yes TEN THOUSAND, entries!), but it did spark some brand new work for me: Abstract Designs! I really enjoyed working just with shape, form and colour, and plan to (1) do many more for home decor and art prints, and (2) turn some of these abstract print designs into super funky, cool repeat patterns! I was so inspired, that I made a separate ABSTRACTS page in my online Portfolio (have a look!). More abstract pattern designs to come! Here are the 4 abstract-themed designs I submitted! Oh, and if you want to see some of the "process" videos for these, check out my Instagram feed! Hint: I plan to add these to my Society 6 Shop in the next few weeks as Art Prints!
