I’ve just entered my new “Retro Rattlers” design in this week’s Spoonflower “Brightly-Colored Reptiles” Design Challenge! This is something a little different for me...OR is it? What do you think, does this design still look like my work? I’m very curious to hear what you think. I am very much liking this graphic “look” and I find my work is always a bit of a tug-of-war between clean, graphic shapes and a more hand-drawn style. Not sure if others see that too?? See it below with a coordinating design I think emulates a closeup view of snakeskin! Check out the Voting Page to see all the colourful entries!
And I've just added this design to Throw Pillows in my New Shop...Check them out!

What do you think, would this design on your walls inspire relaxation? I hope you think so because I’ve entered it in this week’s Spoonflower “Quiet Spaces” Wallpaper Design Challenge! It’s also available on fabric and home decor as well! You can check out all the entries at the Voting Page!
I thought my “Lora” design would be perfect for this week’s Spoonflower “Midsummer Festival” Design Challenge (esp as they celebrate the new season in Sweden) because this mid-century modern floral was inspired by Scandinavian design...What do you think? Does it make you think Summer in Sweden?! This design is now available in my Spoonflower Shop on fabric, wallpaper and home decor! And check out all the gorgeous designs at the Voting Page.
For this week's Spoonflower "East Fork" Design Challenge, Spoonflower paired with gorgeous ceramic maker East Fork Pottery. The challenge was to create a pattern design using at least one of East Fork's new collection colours Malibu and Tequila Sunrise (I used both)! Here is my "Tami" pattern design, one of a series of new mid-century-modern-influenced (!) designs named for popular girls names of the 50s and 60s. This one is now available in my Spoonflower Shop. And you can vote in the Design Challenge at the Voting Page!
“GO BANANAS!” This is what I named my entry for this week’s Spoonflower “Line Art Safari Wallpaper” Design Challenge!
And I hope you’re not literally going bananas after a month of staying home... If you would like to see all the entries, check out the Voting Page! And this fun design is now available to purchase in my Spoonflower Shop on all kinds of fabrics, wallpaper and home decor! I entered my "Cut Paper Snowflakes" design in this week's Spoonflower "Papercut Napkins" Design Challenge (you can see how I created it in the photos below)! I thought maybe snowflakes weren't the best theme for this time of year, but then I noticed a couple of stories in our local paper...
The Rapid Relief Fund which was created to help local people in need in this time of crisis, has gotten a boost from the Times Colonist (our local newspaper) Christmas Fund which is donating $100000 to match and encourage other donations. For the first time in history, the Christmas Fund is being put to work in the Spring. And a local woman has suggested we all turn on our Christmas lights to show thanks to our front-line health-care and other public workers. So, I guess...Christmas snowflakes in Spring? Why not?! You can check out the Voting Page to see all the entries! So thankful to everyone who voted for my “Spring Ditsy” pattern design in the Spoonflower “Micro Modern Quilt” Design Challenge! The support is always so appreciated, inspiring and motivating! Because it won, it is now immediately available in my SPOONFLOWER SHOP! If you've had your eye on it for your projects now is a good time to buy because there is FREE SHIPPING until tomorrow Friday March 6 2020! Check out the Spoonflower Blog Post about the winning designs!
All the best, and once again, thank you for your support! It’s National Quilting Day on March 21 so in honour of that here is my entry for this week’s Spoonflower “Micro Modern Quilt” Design Challenge! The idea this week was to design a small-scale, non-directional ditsy print perfect for piecing together into a quilt top...A little insight into my design process: I started out with a more complicated design, but it just didn’t satisfy me, it was too busy, so I just kept paring it back, streamlining elements until it looked “just right” (at least to me!) I call this one “Spring Ditsy” (shown here with a coordinate called "Spring Dotsy"!)
I wonder...Do you work more intuitively or do you pretty much know where a design is going when you start? If you would like to see this week’s challenge entries, check out the Voting Page! I'm a bit late posting about my entry for this week's Spoonflower "Illustrated Spring Flora and Fauna" Design Challenge because I've been working on new work (stay tuned!), but here it is...My "Three Little Birds" pattern design which was inspired by the song (you know which one I mean!) I think this fits the challenge perfectly and makes me feel happy...kinda like a Spring day! I do like it on a cushion or for the tabletop...Link to the Voting Page here!
I love the limited colour palette design challenges put on by Spoonflower! This week’s “Classic Blue Limited Color Palette” Design Challenge includes the 2020 Pantone Color of the Year "Classic Blue" (which I really, really like!) and 3 other blue shades. I re-coloured my “Mahal” pattern design which was inspired by my travels in India using only the 4 gorgeous shades of blue, and may inspire me to re-colour more of the designs in my "Palace Walls" pattern collection! If you would like to see this week’s entries, be sure to check out the Voting Page!
Many of you have seen my “Floating World” pattern design before and asked if it was available on fabric, so I decided to enter it in this week’s Spoonflower “Vintage Kitsch” Design Challenge (one of my favourite themes so far I think!) If it is voted into the Top 50 it will be immediately available to purchase on fabric and lots of other products next week (see below), but even if not it will still become available but will just take a bit longer. If you would like to check out all the fun designs this week, you can link to the Voting Page here...Groovy! And check out my Spoonflower Shop here if you like!
Wakefield Design Studio is a Florida-based textile print studio that focuses on contemporary, highly sophisticated, and trend-right designs for women's wear, juniors, swimwear, home and accessories. I designed a range of exclusive botanical prints for them which they will show next week (Jan 21-22 2020) at Premiere Vision NYC at the new show venue Center415 on 5th Avenue! Come see all the prints Wakefield will be showing at Booth C5!
This is a bit delayed since I realize the Spoonflower "Jewel-Tone 70s" Design Challenge ended last week, but I just wanted to say thanks to all who voted in that challenge! My design came in at #20 (out of 617), so just really, thanks again!
And because it did well in the challenge, it is now immediately available to purchase in my Spoonflower Shop (link to this design here!) And now for something completely different...My entry for this week's Spoonflower "Pop Art Citrus" Design Challenge! This one is called "Lemon Tart" and is a revised version of a design I did awhile ago but never did anything with. I thought it would be perfect for this challenge! I think this design would be great on kitchen items...but why not sheets and pillows?! If you want to see all the fun designs this week and vote, you can link to the Voting Page here!
I feel like I’ve been posting about my new “Modern Chintz” pattern design a bit much lately but I’ve just entered it in this week’s Spoonflower Design Challenge which just so happens to be “Chintz”! So thought I would let you know. On one hand, this design started with all those old-fashioned floral chintz patterns you've seen so much of (and which I love), but the way I drew the motifs and the fun colours are definitely more of today! If you would like to check out all the gorgeous designs, you can link to the Voting Page here (voting ends Nov 12)!
