Here's a question: can a design be both Art Nouveau and minimalist at the same time?! I actually call this design from my archive "Art Nouveau" so I thought I would enter it in this week's Spoonflower "Art Nouveau Wallpaper" Design Challenge! When I designed it I thought it felt like Art Nouveau albeit a bit pared-down and minimalist! What do you think? Does it "feel" like an Art Nouveau design to you?! Check out the Voting Page to see this week's gorgeous designs!
ADDENDUM (on Jan 23 2020): This design won 30th place in the Art Nouveau Wallpaper Design Challenge (out of 581 entries!) As a result, it is immediately available for sale on Spoonflower, and it's already been sold a few times! Link to it HERE! Thanks so much to all who voted, I very much appreciate your ongoing support. All the best! J

I'm a bit late posting about this week's Spoonflower "1-Yd Abstract Landscape Wall Hanging" Design Challenge since I was away on a much-needed holiday with my family on the Wild West Coast of Vancouver Island. But here is my new "Blood Moon" design which I though was fitting given we just spent the better part of the last week walking long beaches, storm-watching, and going for forest hikes! If you want to vote, you should hurry since voting will close tomorrow January 7 at 3:00 EST! Here is a link to the Voting Page!
ADDENDUM: Because "Blood Moon" ranked highly in the Challenge, it is now immediately available for sale in my Spoonflower Shop! Thanks for your votes, truly! Here is my latest design in a series of floral abstract prints I've been working on recently, and I'm really torn! I just can't seem to decide between these two background colours: blue-silver or bright teal. I think the flowers pop a bit more on the blue-silver, but the teal background just makes the whole design, well, brighter! This design is also one of a series I've been working on and both seem to work in the series equally well...Please help me out and comment about which one you like better! Thanks!
Here is one of my abstract designs that I re-coloured with all these crazy colour combinations and submitted to this week's Spoonflower "Kaleidoscope" Design Challenge. Look closely...How long do you think it took for me to decide on the colours? Don't ask...If you want to check out all the cool designs (and this week, I think "cool" is the right description), you can link to the Spoonflower Voting Page here! Voting ends Nov 19 at 3:00 EST.
My new “Jardin” print (on the right, with "Eden" on the left)! Not sure if you can tell how much fun it is to draw the abstract floral prints I’ve been creating lately, but you can check out the process at my Instagram page in my “Sketching” highlights if you like!
If you walked into a candy store, could you resist these chocolate bars wrapped in my Mexican-inspired “Bougainvillea”, “Sayulita” and “La Lancha” pattern designs??! Not me!!
Maybe they would have flavours like Mexican hot chocolate or cacao bean...These designs are available to license now, and not just for packaging! Contact me for more info! When we were in Sayulita, Mexico for our family holiday this summer we went to a little surf spot called La Lancha (not that I surf, really I just try to stand up on the board)! So in memory of this wonderful place, here is my new tropical pattern featuring nice, gentle La Lancha waves, with some other designs in this growing pattern collection! These pattern designs are available to license, just contact me to inquire!
The next Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Colour-Blocking Shapes", so here is my entry which I call "Utopia"! Voting opens August 15 to 20 at the Spoonflower Voting Page! I would love to hear your thoughts on this one if you have a minute! Thanks! Check out more of my designs in my Spoonflower Shop!
For the month of July, Slowdown Studio had a Blanket Design Competition with 12 winning artists having their designs featured in their 2020 Collection. But before you get tooooo excited, I didn't win (there were almost 10000, yes TEN THOUSAND, entries!), but it did spark some brand new work for me: Abstract Designs! I really enjoyed working just with shape, form and colour, and plan to (1) do many more for home decor and art prints, and (2) turn some of these abstract print designs into super funky, cool repeat patterns! I was so inspired, that I made a separate ABSTRACTS page in my online Portfolio (have a look!). More abstract pattern designs to come! Here are the 4 abstract-themed designs I submitted! Oh, and if you want to see some of the "process" videos for these, check out my Instagram feed! Hint: I plan to add these to my Society 6 Shop in the next few weeks as Art Prints!
My abstract “Bird’s Eye View” pattern design was voted 23rd out of 403 entries in last week’s Spoonflower Design Challenge so it is now available on fabric, wallpaper and giftwrap in my Spoonflower Shop, and on home decor products in my Roostery Shop! I really want to thank all of you who took the time to vote! And don’t forget Spoonflower is offering FREE SHIPPING worldwide through June 28!
My submission to this week’s Spoonflower Design Challenge “Bird’s Eye View”! I wanted to make it completely abstract and have a bit of a terrazzo feel. I was imagining a suburban-scape in a warmer climate (thus all the swimming pools!) Check out all the entries and cast your vote at the Voting Page!
Something Different For Me...This Week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Abstract Minimalism"!5/18/2019 This week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Abstract Minimalism". So taking Morse Code as my starting point, I designed this new pattern design which I call "Secret Message". I really put a lot of thought to the colour palette and like how it really references mid-century modern design...If you want to see the entries and vote, here is a link to this week's Spoonflower Voting Page!
This months creative challenge in The Colour Gang is "Indigo"! So I couldn’t resist re-colouring my “Handprints” Collection in various shades of blue! Check out how different it looks in both the original colours (on the right, below) and in beautiful blue (on the left). I think blue is my fave, which do you prefer?
