This week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Petal Solids Coordinates: In Bloom". Spoonflower has asked for designs that use 1, 2 or 3 of the requested colours which this week are "Coral", "Grass" and "Peony" (these limited colour palette challenges are amongst my favourites to enter)! Designers can use additional colours, but SF recommends not more than 4 colors total (not including Black and White) to ensure the designs coordinate well with their Petal Signature Cotton Solids. I initially was pretty happy to see this week's 3 bright colours (it made me think of jelly beans for some reason)...UNTIL I tried to design with all 3 colours together. For some reason, it just wasn't working! So I decided to Divide and Conquer: I paired each colour with another colour to create 3 separate colourways of my "Jelly Beans" design, trying to make sure all 3 would Mix & Match too. And here they are: 1. CORAL on Purple 2. GRASS on Citron Yellow 3. PEONY on Blue Which one would you have entered? After going back and forth a bunch of times, I decided on #1: Coral on Purple. I just love the "neon-ness" of it! Aside from co-ordinating with the cotton fabrics, it sure would make some crazy wallpaper! Voting opens today Thursday April 14! I've entered my "Blooms" design in this week's Spoonflower "Maximalist Folk" Design Challenge! BTW: this design is available in other co-ordinating colours too! If you know me, you probably realize that I don't really do "neutral" alot! So when I saw this week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is "Neutral Botanicals Grasscloth" Wallpaper, I felt some chagrin. But I rose to the occasion and created my "Gladiolus Garden" design in warm neutrals...And you know what? I like the soft colours! Then I realized: Neutrals Are Colours Too!! .  Fantastic DIY Home Decor Project from Sonata Home Design (Using My "Eucalyptus" Wallpaper)!9/20/2021 Look at this FANTASTIC DIY home decor project from talented home stylist Missy of Sonata Home Design!  I've just entered my "Jardin" design in this week's Spoonflower "Moody Tropical Flora Wallpaper" Design Challenge! I adapted this repeat pattern from an abstract floral art print I created (see it in my Art Prints Portfolio) and I really like how it has a modern Art Nouveau feel (maybe it has something to do with the colours too?)! An old (and very creative!) school mate that I connected with again at my 35th high school reunion (yes, 35th!) recently asked me if I had any bicycle patterns on fabric. Sadly, I didn't, but it stuck in my mind so I created this design for her and made it available in my Spoonflower Shop on fabric, wallpaper and home decor. I call it "My Bike" because I remember how much I loved my bike when I was a kid (remember those tassels?) I wasn't sure what colours she wanted, so I created it in two nostalgic colourways: Mod Red and Black and Pastel Pink and Brown (she chose the first Mod Red and Black colourway!) Some of the ideas I've been playing with for a new collection I've been working on recently: unique colour combos, mix & match patchwork and pure abstraction and geometry! Although I'm working on another project (more about that soon!) that includes this new "Capri" pattern design, I thought it would also be perfect to enter in this week's Spoonflower "Create Room" Design Challenge which says: "The pattern you create should not only provide visual joy, but should inspire both you and others to create more", to use as a wallpaper backdrop in a DreamBox, an all-in-one craft room that folds away into a beautiful armoire, designed by Create Room. For this week's Spoonflower "East Fork" Design Challenge, Spoonflower paired with gorgeous ceramic maker East Fork Pottery. The challenge was to create a pattern design using at least one of East Fork's new collection colours Malibu and Tequila Sunrise (I used both)! Here is my "Tami" pattern design, one of a series of new mid-century-modern-influenced (!) designs named for popular girls names of the 50s and 60s. This one is now available in my Spoonflower Shop. And you can vote in the Design Challenge at the Voting Page!  “GO BANANAS!” This is what I named my entry for this week’s Spoonflower “Line Art Safari Wallpaper” Design Challenge! I entered my "Cut Paper Snowflakes" design in this week's Spoonflower "Papercut Napkins" Design Challenge (you can see how I created it in the photos below)! I thought maybe snowflakes weren't the best theme for this time of year, but then I noticed a couple of stories in our local paper... The Rapid Relief Fund which was created to help local people in need in this time of crisis, has gotten a boost from the Times Colonist (our local newspaper) Christmas Fund which is donating $100000 to match and encourage other donations. For the first time in history, the Christmas Fund is being put to work in the Spring. And a local woman has suggested we all turn on our Christmas lights to show thanks to our front-line health-care and other public workers. So, I guess...Christmas snowflakes in Spring? Why not?!
